Nadel Architects Designs 69-Unit Multifamily Development in Koreatown

The apartments will improve the neighborhood's aesthetic while allowing mobility for residents

LOS ANGELES - June 11, 2018 - PRLog -- Construction is well underway on The Kenmore, a 69-unit multifamily development designed by Nadel Architects (Nadel). Developed by Canfield Development with an estimated cost of $22 million, the 70,247-square-foot complex is located at 435 South Kenmore Avenue in the heart of the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles, where the need for multifamily housing options is increasingly relevant.

Nadel designed the transit-oriented complex, comprising seven studios, 42 one-bedroom, 12 two-bedroom and three three-bedroom apartments atop two levels of above-ground mezzanine parking, in an "L" shape in order to minimize the street-facing bulk of the building and provide southern sun for the recreation deck.

"The primary goal of this project was to create a contemporary building that would provide much-needed housing to the area, while improving its overall aesthetic," said Dale Yonkin, studio director at Nadel. "As one of the highest-density areas in Los Angeles, we wanted to ensure the development contributed to the livability of the area while offering easy access to various modes of transportation. The Kenmore offers compact units that will allow moderate, attractive rent prices to the younger demographic occupying the area."

The new multifamily complex will include a 2,563-square-foot recreation deck, featuring a spa, covered and open lounge seating, outdoor theater and barbeque area, in addition to an indoor gym and recreation room. Along with an array of modern amenities, the development is easily accessible via the Metro Purple and Red Lines and several bus lines.

"We are excited to be working with Nadel on this project that will greatly benefit the community," said Steve Erdman, president of Canfield Development. "The demand for multifamily in Los Angeles is at an all-time high, and in an area like Koreatown with ever-increasing population growth, it's important to ensure residents have access to quality living options."

Nadel's project team consists of Dale Yonkin, studio director; Afsaneh Riahi, planner and Andrew Wolff, design director and designer.

Nadel has been contributing to the Southern California multifamily landscape for years, having designed over 60,000 residential units. In addition to The Kenmore, the firm is currently working on several residential and mixed-use projects throughout the region, including another Koreatown development comprising 269 residential units in addition to ground-floor retail, which is scheduled to break ground this summer.
