Ural Federal University Receive State Grants for Fundamental and Exploratory Research

According to the number of grantees of the Russian Science Foundation, the University entered the top three in the country
 
EKATERINBURG, Russian Federation - April 13, 2018 - PRLog -- 16 scientific groups of Ural Federal University received the support of the Russian Science Foundation: 15 of them for the first time until 2020, another one with an extension until 2019 under the guidance of Professor Alexey Ivanov.

'We won grant of the RSF for the first time,' noted one of the leaders of the winning applications Professor Artemy Popov. 'Our group is engaged in the development of new materials based on the synthesis of titanium alloys. The range of applications is wide: from aircraft engineering to medicine.'

According to the number of grantees of the RSF only Moscow and St. Petersburg universities got ahead of UrFU. Each of seven grants provides funding from 4 to 6 million rubles annually, were received by the Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, three by Humanities, two by the Institute of Chemical Engineering and the Institute of New Materials and Technologies and one by the Institute of Physics and Technology.

Among the new applications approved by the RSF were such topics as methods for solving ill-posed tasks of remote sensing of the atmosphere (a research group led by climatologist Vyacheslav Zakharov), Napoleonic wars (historian Olga Porshneva), development of new hydrometallurgical processes (metallurgist Stanislav Naboychenko) and others.

'Rossiyskaya Gazeta' cites the data of the Director General of the RSF that in 2017 the largest scientific fund in Russia supported about 30 thousand scientists, allocating 18,5 billion rubles for three thousand grants. Alexander Khlunov marks UrFU as one of the leaders.

The list of winners of the competition for fundamental scientific research and exploratory research by individual scientific groups of the RSF was published yesterday.

In 2017, the implementation of projects supported by the RSF within the framework of the four tenders of 2015 was completed. All three tenders provide opportunity for extending the duration of projects for one or two years on a competitive basis. In addition, the foundation announced a competition for individual scientific groups with the start of funding in 2018. The RSF sums up the results and publishes the lists of the winners of these competitions.

3,654 applications were received by the organizers of 'Conducting fundamental scientific research and exploratory scientific research by individual scientific groups', 96% of them were admitted. Experts conducted more than 12,500 examinations and decided to support 525 projects. The competition provides opportunity for possible extension of projects for one or two years.
