| ![]() Are Local Authorities serious about reducing CO2 emissions? The answer is they most certainly are. All Local Authorities set reduction targets to reach for CO2 emissions because a greener authority is good for everyone, no matter what your opinion on Global Warming is.
By: PeachWorx One area that can hinder a Local Authority in reaching targets though, is the desktop PC. Most councils have thousands and thousands of them and they are often responsible for wasting electricity. When a PC is left on after hours, it's using power, all night and all weekend if it's a Friday. This waste increases energy costs, increases CO2 emissions and shortens equipment life. In Council Offices, there is often a power management software solution installed but spare a thought for the tens of thousands of PCs in Local Authority run Schools. Often, School budgets can't stretch to power management software so they rely on a mix of other methods including scripts, policies or just manually powering down. The problem with this approach is that it can leave PCs left on full power when out of date device drivers get in the way of shut downs. They are also quite cumbersome, time consuming and inflexible so the schools are missing out on automatic wake ups, hibernates and shut downs that maximise all the opportunities there are to save throughout the day. PeachWorx have solved this problem with their Local Education Authority Licence. When a Local Authority purchases the LEA Licence, every council run School is automatically licenced to use TaskForceCO2 on any number of PCs at their School. 'This approach unifies power management across an Authority, ensures everyone is trying to make savings and produces average financial and CO2 reports on the savings' said Richard Ward, Partner at PeachWorx. 'The Licence is affordable at £2995 for a 3 Year period. At less than a £1000 a year, there's no excuse for any PC in any Council run School to be left on overnight' continued Ward. Full details of the Licencing Scheme are at https://www.taskforceco2.com/ 'If a Local Authority is serious about cutting CO2 and costs then we encourage them to take a look' said Ward. End
