Teleraph Hill Gallery featues 'Perspective' with Jardel, Blankenship, and Jones

SAN FRANCISCO - Nov. 3, 2017 - PRLog -- Telegraph Hill Gallery is pleased to present a group exhibition featuring the works of Martine Jardel, Julie Blankenship, and Janet Jones. Perspetive will run from October 30, 2017 through November 24, 2017 with an opening reception on November 3, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Perspective will highlight varying series of the three artists, Jardel's abstract paintings, Blankenship's photo-based mixed-media works and Jones' mixed-media collages. These three artists have created unique, individual approaches to a similar set of subject matter. The exploration of space, time, material, and process are all components of these artists' works.

Jardel's paintings in the series Paysage reflect her intuitive response to colors. The works are composed of an assemblage of bold and subtle hues, gestures, and marks of acrylic paints, pencil and ink suggesting atmospheric images of landscapes and seascapes. Jardel describes herself as 'interested in exploring the space between representation and abstraction; influenced by shifting and perceived moments during the transient stages of drawing, I illustrate an imaginary and ephemeral place that allows the viewer to create one's own visual and emotional narrative.'

Jones uses a variety of found materials to create striking layered collages. 'Rather than collecting beautiful materials for collage and mixed media, I look for those that survived against all odds.' Her works act as a process and each series serves as a study of the material. Ancient folios, old newspapers, and discarded books form intricate and abstract works that tell a story. In the series The Afterlife of Dreams, Jones created landscape-like works using the tattered remnants of millennial-old books of Confucian quotes and Chinese poetry. 'I had a visceral response to the innate beauty of the papers and calligraphy, and the counterpoint of worm tracery. The pages were impossible to separate without their disintegrating. I layered them but otherwise not altered them and let the papers speak for themselves.'

Blankenship creates photo-based, mixed media works, exploring photography, history and the changeable nature of identity. Her process involves applying layers similar to collage and once the layers are formed she adds her own effects. In one series, Blankenship used the backside of late 19^th century social cards as the base and arranged them in grids. She then added layers of graphite, ink, and drawings and let them take shape on the photo-based composition.
