NTH Consultants, Ltd. Wins Trenchless Technology 2016 Project of the Year

NORTHVILLE, Mich. - Sept. 28, 2016 - PRLog -- NTH Consultants, Ltd. (NTH) today announced the company was awarded the 2016 Project of the Year from Trenchless Technology magazine for their work on the rehabilitation of the Oakland Macomb Interceptor Drain (OMID) sanitary sewer system.

The Oakland-Macomb Interceptor Drain (OMID) is a large diameter sewer system that serves over 800,000 residents of Michigan. This sewer was constructed in-tunnel in the 1970s, and has experienced several catastrophic collapses over the years, the latest in 2004. NTH inspected the sewer system and found many areas of the sewer were in extremely poor condition and could be subject to future catastrophic collapses. NTH led a team of engineering firms in developing an approach for rehabilitation of the system, and to prepare contract documents for a multi-phase rehabilitation and repair program.

"This project was a first for the trenchless industry in many ways. Never before has a repair program been attempted at such a large diameter (8-feet to 13-feet), at such extreme depths (up to 110 feet deep), at these lengths (over 26,000 feet of lining), without the ability to bypass flow. This unprecedented scope of construction required complex flow control systems; innovative construction means, methods, and equipment; and efficient operations in tight work windows," said Jason R. Edberg, P.E., Vice-President and Senior Principal Engineer at NTH. "We are honored to have our hard work recognized by such an important industry publication and we wish to congratulate the other winners on their significant contributions to our industry."

According to Trenchless Technology, winners were chosen on the basis of "technical advancement, technical complexity, milestones and records achieved, interaction and cooperation and advancement of the trenchless industry." A committee of experts representing a cross section of the industry judge entries and selected the winners. NTH along with other recognized winners will be highlighted in the October 2016 issue of Trenchless Technology and also recognized at the 2017 NASTT No-Dig Show, held in Washington, D.C. on April 9-13.
