SOMERSET, N.J. - July 21, 2016 - PRLog -- In an effort to bring art appreciation to life, The Oscar and Ella Wilf Campus for Senior Living is sponsoring a program to explore the life and works of one of the most influential impressionist painters. The program, entitled "The Art of Camille Pissarro," will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 from 9:30 am – 11:00 am at Jewish Family Services of Middlesex County.Pissarro, an artist of Jewish descent, was recognized as a father figure to the Impressionist as well as Post-Impressionist painters of the late 19th century.

The Wilf Campus program will be presented by artist and historian Maurice Mahler, an adjunct faculty member at Rutgers University and a frequent lecturer throughout New Jersey and New York on artists and art history. As an artist, Pissarro depicted life in the city of Paris in the mid to late 1800s, with its wide boulevards, gaslights and cafes. As train travel became possible with the industrial revolution, artists ventured from their studios into the world with paint and easels. Professor Mahler notes, "Art is a reflection of the times in which an artist lived. Through his eyes we are able to learn what life was like during this period."

"The Art of Camille Pissarro" will emphasize how the power of art can keep the mind engaged, providing pleasurable feelings and a positive outlook. "Learning about and viewing art can change your mood. We can see the beauty of a landscape, a city scene or ripples of water and be transported to another place for the moment," reflects Professor Mahler.

"The Art of Camille Pissarro" is open to the public. Jewish Family Services of Middlesex County is located at 52 Concordia Shopping Center, Monroe Township, NJ. There is a requested donation of $5 to attend and pre-registration is required. To register please call 732-568-1155 or email info@wilfcampus.org.
