Thanks Supporters & Announces 2017 Tea!

The San Francisco Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women kicked off Women's History Month with its "Bridging the Generations Golden Girls Hats & Gloves Tea 2016 at the historic Fairmont Hotel, with the help of top sponsors: Sutter Health CPMC; Kaiser Permanente; The Willie L. Brown Jr. Institute; San Francisco Federal Credit Union; San Francisco Water Power and Sewer; and Covered California.  State Officials Mark Leno and Phil Ting were on hand.

"We're making a positive difference in the lives of girls, women and their families thanks to our generous sponsors who see value in changing lives. We thank our sponsors and the guests who support us," said Dr. Maxine Hickman, President of the San Francisco Chapter, National Coalition of 100 Black Women.  "We host the next tea March 4, 2017."

The 2016 Honorees inspired by keynote speaker, the Honorable Teri L. Jackson are:

April Spears, Auntie April's Restaurant (Entrepreneur); Diane Gray, 100% College Prep (Education); Carletta Jackson-Lane, Sojourner Truth Foster Family Services (Advocacy); Pamela Ratliff, Stanford Cancer Institute (Health); Carla Thomas, Post Newspaper Group (Community Service); Pat Coleman, Coleman Medical Center (Golden Girl); Henrietta Davis, Opera Diva (Arts); and Sargent Yulanda D.A. Williams, San Francisco Police Department (Trail Blazer).

The annual tea is the main fundraiser for the organization's "Bridging the Generations Employment and Job Training Program."  The SF National Coalition of 100 Black Women has created a training pilot program with I.T. Bookman Community Center via Supervisor John Avalos' OMI Community Action Grant that assisted its Covered California project.

"The San Francisco National Coalition of 100 Black Women has done exemplary advocacy work to help empower women during California's economic downturn," said Senator Leno, D-San Francisco. "I commend their efforts to support African American women and girls in the San Francisco Bay Area."

In addition to Judge Jackson's inspiring keynote speech, the audience enjoyed the talent of renowned pianist Ricardo Scales, youth performers Tyeese Chappel and Jarel Winn as Bay Area radio personality Christie James emceed the event that included tea etiquette expert Syndi Seid.

Also, CA Assemblyman Phil Ting presented commendations as did his colleague Senator Leno.  President of the Board of Supervisors London Breed and Supervisor Malia Cohen sent greetings.
