ATS - EchoUser Team Wins USDA Innovation Challenge Recognition

SILVERDALE, Wash. - March 23, 2016 - PRLog -- Applied Technical Systems, Inc. (ATS), teaming with EchoUser, a San Francisco, CA-based full-service User Experience agency, won the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Innovation Challenge Large Organization Recognition Award for the application "Farmed."

The goal of the Innovation Challenge was to help build a sustainable U.S. food system by putting USDA data into the hands of farmers.  ATS and EchoUser's approach used decades of USDA crop and climate data to map land and growth density data on farmer's land to problem spots. The rainfall and crop yield graphs reveal which crops performed the best in challenging precipitation years, so farmers can plan for dry years.  Combining interviews with farmers and data analysis, the team designed and built a map-based application that appeals to farmers by showing them exactly what is happening on their land and in the surrounding local community.
