Young People Help Local Homelessness Cause

ASHFORD, U.K. - March 18, 2016 - PRLog -- 30 young people, from celebrated their achievements on the spring National Citizen Service programme at their graduation event last night.

As part of the event, the team members recounted their experiences on each of the three phases of the programme - residential, community awareness and social action - and talked about what they had gained from taking part.  The two teams, which comprised all 30 young people, both chose to work with a local homelessness cause, Vinnie's Diner - the only soup kitchen in Ashford town centre, supporting the work it does and helping improve its facilities.

To raise funds for their project the teams organised raffles, cake sales and also received donations from large corporations such as Tescos.  They helped repaint some of the interior and completed their project by cooking a hot, healthy meal for twelve homeless people.  The additional money they raised will be used to help install a shower at the facility for the homeless to use.

Following the presentation of their certificates by Sir Roger Gale, MP for Thanet North, he said "What you have all done is fantastic. You identified the cause, you put the hard work in and raised the money, which takes courage.  All of this is a recognition of that effort; go home tonight confident that you made a real difference, but do not let it be the end. Go on from here and continue to go out on a limb - that is what life is about. You've got to keep going on saying 'yes' to make 'yes' happen. Well done, you're an inspiration to us all."
