The major updates in ABACUS 4.5 improve usability for teams who need to collaborate on a central model, allowing them to easily manage merges from different locations and time-zones. “We’ve continued to invest in our popular SharePoint Sync plugin, which offers the ability to build and maintain enterprise architecture models from SharePoint repositories.” For enterprise architecture teams collaborating on a central model, ABACUS 4.5 has the ability to synchronise or merge architectures via catalogues and diagrams using the Diff feature, with the added benefit of guidance on whether to sync / merge according to the specific ‘diff’. Diagrams have new options which enable greater visibility and traceability: Compatibility improvements in ABACUS 4.5 include the ability to run in 64-bit mode on 64-bit systems, allowing for greater utilisation of memory and significant operational improvements. Power users will be able to take advantage of the latest operating hardware and systems on the market while 32-bit systems will still have the option to run ABACUS in 32-bit mode. SharePoint Sync compatibility has been upgraded with support for lookup fields, source/sink EEID columns for connection mappings, and the ability to quickly and easily sync new items which have been added in SharePoint. It allows editing existing mappings to add new fields without having to manually add the fields in SharePoint first. In addition, ABACUS simulations can now be run from scripting, allowing command-line execution of them on the server-side ; and ABACUS can also export data to Microsoft SQL Server. Users of ABACUS 4.5 will have greater visibility into architecture changes as ABACUS now directly records creation details for architectures and elements, and modified details for elements and element properties which can be easily accessed through the various properties windows within ABACUS. Coinciding with the launch, Avolution has upgraded its support systems by introducing a self-service licence signing option to ensure users do not have any difficulty connecting to licence servers due to firewalls. Avolution has updated the meta-model support for the platform including enhancements to the ABACUS 4.5 meta-model; ArchiMate 2.1 and TOGAF 9.1 from The Open Group; and OMG’s Business Process Management Notation BPMN.
