A Merry Christmas for the British motorist – and a less prosperous New Year for the Exchequer!

By: Certas Energy

Dec. 11, 2015 - PRLog -- The message from Ramsay MacDonald, the Retail Director of Certas Energy, is that motorists will benefit this Christmas from the lowest fuel prices in three years as the price of crude oil continues to slide. Certas Energy is the largest supplier to the UK’s independently owned forecourts, including 500 Gulf branded sites.

“We expect pump prices in some areas to drop below a £1 a litre for both petrol and diesel and that is very good news for motorists at a time of peak travel on our roads,” says MacDonald.

“However, beware the bearer of false gifts. Independent petrol retailers work on margins of just a few pence, whilst the Government currently takes 70% of the cost of a litre of fuel in taxes. Falling oil prices mean lower revenues for the Exchequer and you can be sure that George Osborne will look to recoup this shortfall through taxation of some sort in the New Year.”
