PRLog -- The Gateway to the Arts project in Golden Gate had a well-attended grand opening for the community on October 2. Funded by a three-year $163,293.00 grant from the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties to the Library Foundation of Martin County, the project will provide opportunities for promoting the cultural value of the Golden Gate community by offering events and activities focusing on an appreciation and understanding of the arts. The project will be coordinated by Lisa Holland for the Martin County Library System (MCLS).
“The Library Foundation of Martin County is pleased to be able to have a collaborative role in working with other organizations to advance our mission of providing funds to enrich library services and facilities not met by public funding,” said Noreen Fisher, President of The Library Foundation Board of Directors, Inc.
The event featured artwork on display from Donn Jones, Lisa Jill Allison, and Julia Whorf Kelly as well as live music from Diane Cumberland. A raffle was held for a one-of-a-kind mailbox designed by Gateway to the Arts students, and a “Give it a Name!” contest gave one lucky attendee the chance to go home with a Donn Jones original.
Dennis Fruitt, Executive Director of the Library Foundation of Martin County, and Daryl Houston, Community Investment Officer of the Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin Counties, were in attendance to express their gratitude to the community and staff that made the grand opening such a success.
The art studio is located at 2770 SE Fairmont Street, Stuart and is open 3:30 to 5:30 pm each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
