LIMA, Ohio - Aug. 18, 2015 - PRLog -- When Suzanne Blankemeier decided she wanted to open her own business, her background in nursing and home health made the direction an easy choice –she wanted to be in home care. That’s what led her to open Home Helpers & Direct Link of Ottawa.

Home Helpers is the nation’s leading franchise specializing in comprehensive home care for seniors, new mothers and individuals needing recuperative and continuing assistance. Direct Link is its proprietary line of 24/7 medical alert systems, including a fall sensor, automated medication dispenser and vital signs monitoring units. Home Helpers & Direct Link Ottawa serves Lima, Ottawa, Findlay, Defiance and the surrounding areas.

“I want people who are in need of home care services to know that we are here to help. We understand that you may need someone to help with bathing, dressing and medication management, but we know that sometimes you need someone to take you to the doctor, the grocery store, the movies, out to eat, the salon – or maybe even someone to play cards with you. Our caregivers are available to help with those non-medical needs as well as some limited nursing services.” Blankemeier said.

When Blankemeier’s father was battling cancer 15 years ago, his care team encouraged Blankemeier to give up her career as an engineering assistant and go back to school for nursing because of her passion for caregiving.  She took their advice and earned her nursing degree. She started her career in oncology before moving to home health care 10 years ago. In that role, she worked as a home health case manager, quality nurse, manager and director.

“I knew quickly that home care was where I belonged. I realized there was a great need for non-medical home health services in our area. When I started researching companies, I fell in love with Home Helpers because of their reputation for quality,” Blankemeier said. “I thoroughly enjoy working with individuals in their home environment and the goal at Home Helpers is to help keep people safe and comfortable in their homes for as long as possible.”

Home Helpers & Direct Link offers free in-home consultations and works with each client to create a flexible, affordable care plan based on a person’s individual needs. Services offered include companionship, laundry, light housekeeping, respite care, meal preparation and transportation as well as medication management and care management.

Each individual client receives services tailored to meet their specific needs by caregivers who become an extension of their family. Home Helpers’ full-range of home care services empower clients to live healthier and more rewarding lives in the privacy, safety, and comfort of their own homes.

“I opened this business because I wanted to bring a top-notch home care service to this community. We are a high quality agency and our caregivers are excellent. We’re looking forward to being the go-to company for your family,” Blankemeier said.

When she’s not working, Blankemeier is spending time with her husband and two sons – ages 9 and 11. The boys have also been helping her get Home Helpers & Direct Link Ottawa off the ground by helping to stuff packets, picking out office supplies, etc.

“They are excited to be helping with those tasks and I love that they are getting a new perspective on life and business. This is a great opportunity to continue to have a meaningful career helping others, while spending more time with my family,” she said.
