Follow on Google News | Greater Conroe Economic Development Directors Improve Skills through University Economic InstituteAdvanced professional development program provides professionals in the Greater Conroe Economic Development Council improved skills that will give Greater Conroe EDC an edge in strategic planning and promoting economic development for Conroe region.
By: Greater Conroe Economic Development Council “As the premier organization dedicated to training economic development professionals, I am very pleased with this year’s graduates,” said Jay Moon, OU EDI Dean. “They represent some of the finest economic development practitioners in the U.S. working to support their local communities.” The OU program provides a broad spectrum of advanced education for economic development professionals. OU EDI classes focus on three major core areas including: Business Retention and Expansion, Real Estate, and Finance, as well as areas of concentration in Marketing, Strategic Planning, Entrepreneurship, and Managing Economic Development Organizations. Students select curriculum from more than fifty seminars, workshops and discussion groups. “Danielle and Jennifer have been invaluable assets for the Greater Conroe Economic Development Council,” said Fred Welch, Executive Directed of the GCEDC. “Graduating from OU EDI is academic confirmation of their knowledge and skills that has driven the outstanding work they have done with the local business community. The Conroe economic climate will continue to flourish with Danielle and Jennifer leading the way.” Scheiner, who joined the GCEDC in 2013, is responsible for the attraction of new business through the promotion of the Conroe community, while assisting those incoming businesses with the incentive process. The Texas A&M graduate has specialization in the areas of economic and tourism development, event planning and coordination, community and government relations, marketing, public relations and strategic planning. Matthews has been with the GCEDC since 1997, serving in a number of roles. Her current focus as Associate Director is on the retention of local businesses through relationship building and assistance with items such as expansion projects, incentives, and workforce needs. Matthews, the longest tenured GCEDC staffer, is also involved in the planning of the annual Conroe Job Fair and Allies Day event. OU EDI, which is celebrating its 52nd year of service to the economic development community, is fully accredited by the International Economic Development Council. The institute has trained more than 4,000 graduates and remains the world’s leading economic development training program.
