Follow on Google News | ![]() Five Rivers Publishing released New Expanded Edition of Tower in the Crooked WoodEileen Kernaghan, author of The Snow Queen, says Tower in the Crooked Wood's “wealth of realistic detail lends authenticity to this engrossing tale of a young arborist, ‘a scholar of trees.’ Paula Johanson has created a magical alternative world both mythic in feel, and hauntingly evocative of our own.” Senior editor, Robert Runté, says Five Rivers Publishing acquired the rights to Tower in the Crooked Wood because it is “a completely original fantasy, not just another sword-and-sorcery adventure… accessible enough to be YA, but smart enough to delve deeply into the real world issues of resistance and community”. Tower in the Crooked Wood is an adventure with a philosophical, ethical, and cultural slant that is neither pompous nor judgemental. In Tower in the Crooked Wood, the protagonist, Jenia, is allowed to grow, to question, and to be mistaken. What is the individual's responsibility to the community? What is the community's responsibility to its neighbours? How does one fight evil at its roots? About the Cover The new book cover was designed by Five Rivers Publishing Art Director Jeff Minkevics. Jeff found creative inspiration through Canadian artist Emily Carr's paintings of the coastal environment of British Columbia.
