(NEWARK, NJ) -- CASA for Children of Essex County, Inc. is pleased to announce the return of its annual fitness fundraiser, Spin for A Child, to be held on Sunday March 1st at 3Sixty Cycling & Fitness Studio in Montclair. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is a local volunteer-based nonprofit that provides advocacy for children in foster care. For the past six years local residents from across Essex County have teamed up to Spin for a Child; helping to raise over $375,000 to support the goal of providing advocacy for every foster child in Essex County. Excitement around this year’s event is heightened by the addition of Groove Indoor Rowing and the new opportunity to ‘Row for a Child.’ To participate or donate, go to www.spinforachild.org. All fundraising is conducted online. The website generates a custom link for each participant’ personal fundraising page that can be shared on Facebook, Twitter, and through email to generate support from friends, family, and colleagues. "It’s hard to believe that Spin for a Child is in its seventh year. It’s just amazing to think of the children we’ve been able to assist. And, this year should be the best yet as we add Row for a Child in our Groove Indoor Rowing Studio.” said Mark Cohen, owner of 3Sixty Cycling & Fitness Studio. "This is the real deal. Every dollar raised at this event goes directly to ensuring that these kids have a court appointed special advocate; a voice, a guiding hand through the system. Imagine for a moment the possibility of changing the life of a child. Let’s do this!” Spin for a Child is one of three standing events held every year by CASA for Children of Essex County. A golf outing is held on the first Monday of June and a formal gala is held each November. “Spin for A Child is important because it attracts a different kind of donor – most Spin for a Child donors support with pledges of $25 to $100 to support their friends who are cycling,” said Ami Talkow, Event Chair for Spin for A Child. “These smaller pledges of individual giving really add up – and unlike other events with venue costs to underwrite – thanks to the generous support of 3Sixty Cycling & Fitness Studio, 100% of the donations from Spin for a Child go directly to our program.” Part of a national network of CASA programs, Essex CASA is tasked with advocating for the largest population of foster children in New Jersey. Last fiscal year, the number of children taken into the state’s care in Essex County exceeded 2,200. Each of those children were removed from their homes due to substantiated cases of abuse or neglect. “The work of our volunteers makes a huge impact for these kids – greatly improving outcomes for them during very difficult childhoods,” Mosey, Recruitment Coordinator. “Our advocates are vital to ensuring these foster children receive the services they need while in care and that the child’s best interests are considered in moving them as quickly as possible to a safe and permanent home. CASA Advocates provide critical information that Family Court Judges need to make life-changing decisions for children and families.” Recently recognized for its commitment to diversity and inclusion by National CASA, Essex CASA continues to work hard to meet the growing need for more Advocates to serve the nearly 1,500 foster youth who could benefit from their services. “Events like Spin for A Child help CASA support the crucial operations and personnel it takes to make this great machine run,” said Karen Burns, Executive Director. Essex CASA is looking for local fitness enthusiasts to Spin and Row for a Child, so more children in foster care can receive the powerful support of a dedicated Advocate. Come out on March 1st and help us take another child off the waiting list. For More Information about this event, go to www.spinforachild.org or contact Rakeem Mosey at (973)-622-4831. End
