Essex CASA to Host Info Night at Maplewood Public Library

NEWARK, N.J. - Aug. 24, 2015 - PRLog -- (NEWARK, NJ), (Court Appointed Special Advocates) CASA for Children of Essex County will host an information night at Maplewood Public Library’s Memorial Hall on Wednesday, September 16 at 7:00 PM for citizens interested in making a difference for the county’s abused and neglected foster children.

The primary goal of each of the public information meetings is to give prospective volunteers an opportunity to hear from CASA staff and active volunteers.  Those who attend the meeting also get the opportunity to ask questions about what is involved in serving as a volunteer.

“Essex County consistently leads in the number of foster cases in the state,” Karen Burns, Executive Director said.  “Our focus at Essex CASA is always on addressing the demand and making sure more children in need can receive a CASA advocate working on their behalf, representing their needs and best interests to the Judge.  In order for that to happen we need more citizen-volunteers to step up.”

Essex CASA’s volunteers are committed to ensuring that foster children’s best interests are served in the family courts as well as receiving needed services and assistance while in foster care.

“CASA volunteers are everyday people from many different walks of life who make sure abused and neglected foster children receive the support needed while in foster care,” said Rakeem Mosey, Recruitment Coordinator.  “We need more people from the community to step up and be there for these children to see to it they all get a chance at a life they deserve.”
