Spin for a Child kicks into gear at Montclair’s 3Sixty Cycling and Fitness!

NEWARK, N.J. - Feb. 12, 2016 - PRLog -- Local fitness enthusiasts will gather once again to spin at Montclair’s, 3Sixty Cycling and Fitness Studio to help raise needed funds while bringing attention to the foster child advocacy by volunteers at Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of Essex County at the eighth annual Spin for A Child (http://www.spinforachild.org/) event on Sunday, March 6.

“Spin for a Child is an event involving both teens and adults,” said Ami Talkow, North Caldwell resident and event chairperson.  “Some participants choose to join together as a team to ride while others choose to ride on their own.  The end result is the same...a great group of energetic people committed to the cause of raising critical funds to help benefit children in the foster care system.”

CASA volunteers are trained citizens who advocate for abused and neglected children currently living in foster care.  While working with a staff case supervisor, volunteers help family court judges make better informed decisions about what’s in the best interest of a child for their present and future.

"You absolutely cannot imagine the impact a CASA volunteer has on the life of a child," said Talkow. "You truly have the ability to make enormously positive changes for one child at a time. That being said, not everyone has the ability to be an advocate, but many people can hop on a spin bike for a high energy 45 minute spin class and reach out to family and friends for donations.”

Since the event’s establishment eight years ago, the fundraiser has generated close to $400,000 to go toward helping the organization fulfill its mission.

“Every dollar counts and all funds raised for this event goes directly to impact CASA for Children of Essex County, thanks to the generosity of Mark Cohen of 3Sixty Cycling and Fitness who donates the use of his upscale fitness studio and his instructors donate their time.”

The county wide event encourages CASA supporters to contribute to the valuable work of its volunteers.  Whether you are spinning or making a donation to a participant, everyone can get involved in some way to help bring attention to this cause.

Currently, Essex County has the highest number of foster children in the state of New Jersey.  CASA volunteers advocate for foster children that have been referred to the organization by family court judges in need of additional support and services for their cases.

“We’re really excited about getting our community involved in our event in this way,” said Karen Burns, executive director.  “Ami continues to do a magnificent job with the planning while getting the community excited about this fun, one day spin event.”
