UK Car Discount Revs Up For 2015

The SMMT (Society OF Motor Manufacturers and Traders) reported 2,476,435 new cars registered in the UK in 2014, the highest figure since 2004 and actually the fourth highest on record.

The Supermini sector was the big seller followed by small family cars. The Ford Fiesta was not only the best-selling car in this class but also overall in the UK by some distance, outselling its big brother the Ford Focus by more than 46,000 units over the year. Vauxhall also performed well with the Corsa and Astra the third and fifth best-selling cars of 2014 respectively. Volkswagen and Nissan also performed well both having two models in the top ten best sellers. The Audi A3 and comeback king, the Fiat 500 made up the rest of the ten best sellers.  ‘We sold a large numberof small cars in 2014’ said Directory Gary Bennett ‘Motorists are becoming extremely savvy when it comes to looking at the bigger picture with running costs and the residual value of the vehicle more important than ever them’.

Alternative fuel vehicles saw a huge upturn in 2014 with a 58% upturn on the previous year. ‘Motorists are becoming more and more aware of the environmental impact of traditional fuelled engines and we fully expect the upturn in alterative fuelled vehicles to continue in 2015. Expect to see more full electric models on the road as manufacturers continue to improve the technology and make them more practical.
