The pilot project was launched in Lilongwe rural east covering the Nathenje zone.
"It is incredibly important to ensure girls are given the opportunity to thrive" says Ian C Maliseni, CEO of Urunji. "If girls are given equal opportunities, we can easily eradicate illiteracy in Malawi" In addition to this initiative, UCCT is providing bursaries to girls up to university level. This is an expansion of the school feeding programme at selected rural schools in Malawi targetting over 3,000 children. "Without Urunji support, I wouldn't have attained secondary education. By now I would have been hopeless and helpless" says Anne, one of the girls who has received support from UCCT. Urunji Child-Care Trust runs several poverty alleviation programmes aimed at eradicating extreme poverty in Malawi. UCCT harnesses the power of collective effort in fighting poverty by working at the grassroots level to provide long-tern solutions to problems communities face. The solar reading project is being run with donations collected from well-wishers and also through their fundraising page on Givengain. End
