CATM New York is proud to welcome internationally acclaimed artist Philippe Valy to its fold
From the tutelage of Jean Cocteau rises the endearing Philippe Valy. Valy reworks and reinterprets the surrealist manifesto with grandness worthy of his predecessors.
For more than three decades, Valy has dutifully transcribed masterworks that have embodied his own unique flare for the risqué with Peter Maxian pop. His in depth address of sexual tension and investigations of intimacy reveal the most private of fantastic odysseys. His dedicated use of the feminine form illuminate hidden desire borne of biblical remorse. Stories are told and retold, dreams are dreamt and a creative outpouring of reconstituted imagery merge into otherworldly landscape.
After studying under the great Jean Cocteau, Valy has proven his worth with exceptional dexterity. Valy drew blood upon his first meeting with philanthropist Barrett Hamilton who thought of his creations as true, so much so, that he introduced him and his work to President Bill Clinton, who now, along with Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, counts as one of his many collectors.
Valy, an altruist through and through, has singlehandedly spearheaded campaigns to promote Art throughout his long career and has enjoyed notoriety among celebrity affairs along the way. His design for The Blume Media Group and The 53rd Drama Desk Awards helped raise needed charitable funds. Valy, originally from Sanary in the South of France, is endemic to the French philosophy of Joie de Vivre.
