As a child I loved ponies, but particularly the wild and beautiful Conemara pony which ran free on the fantastic Atlantic seaboard known as Co Galway, where the ponies grazed and bred on the rugged terrain.  Later in my teens, I was to travel extensively in Ireland and was thrilled to finally set eyes on the wild herds of these lovely intelligent animals.  Visiting the Conemara foal fair at Maam Cross in Co Galway was a totally absorbing trip.  It was also an exhilarating experience to walk in these hills and inhale the scent of the flower and fauna of this unique area.
