STUART, Fla. - June 3, 2014 - PRLog -- The Center for Constitutional Values Awards Inaugural Scholarships

Stuart, FL – Lily Miller, age 16, and Canaan Campo, age 18 are the first winners of the Center for Constitutional Values (CCV) scholarship program. The awards were presented May 23 during the Board Meeting of the CCV at the Stuart Learning Center on 10th Street. The scholarship amounts are $500 and $1000 respectively and will be used at the college of the students’ choice.

The scholarship opportunity was open to any high school student who completed an on-line course about the Constitution provided by Hillsdale College of Hillsdale, Michigan. Following the course, students must demonstrate their knowledge of the Constitution and its importance in an essay or other format. Carrie Philipbar of Piper’s Landing in Palm City, President of the CCV said, “We want to inspire young people and encourage them to understand the principles of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution."

Lily Miller, a resident of Palm City, is a sophomore who along with her four siblings, has received a Christian home school education. Lily is enthusiastic about the Constitution. “ It was extremely gratifying to be chosen not only for the financial help but for the opportunity to make an impact on students my own age and to ignite a passion for the Constitution,” Lily stated. She is enrolled in the online College Level Examination Program.   Her current number one college choice is Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.

Canaan Campo is a graduating senior at Jensen Beach High School. He has already taken college level courses and has 18 credits through the dual enrollment program at Indian River State College. He will be attending Marymount University in Arlington, Va. and majoring in economics. Canaan commented, “ I think it is veryimportant for my peers to understand the Constitution and the Center for Constitutional Values provides a great incentive to learn about it. I am very grateful to receive a scholarship and represent them.”

On hand to present the scholarships were Carrie Kinzer Philipbar, President of CCV, directors Mike Stetson, Kate Boland, Dr. Tracey Miller, Dr. Richard Scheuing and Bill Tulko.

Richard Evans is the treasurer; other directors include Joe Acinapura, George W. Bush, Jr., Esq., Susan Murphy, Sherry Plymale and Martin County Commissioner Anne Scott.
