Providence - Rhode Island - US

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - May 16, 2014 - PRLog -- Providence Community Library (PCL) will host the second of three “Meet the Candidates” forums at Rochambeau Library (708 Hope Street, 401-272-3780) where candidates for Mayor of Providence will respond to questions about neighborhood issues.  Planned for Thursday, May 22 at 6:00p.m., the public will have an opportunity to question all candidates and tell them what they think about schools, libraries, safety, jobs and many other issues of concern to their communities.

The Rochambeau event follows a large turnout for the first forum at Knight Memorial Library, which took place on April 16. The third forum will take place on June 12 at Wanskuck Library (233 Veazie Street, 401-274-4145). All forums start at 6:00p.m., are sponsored by PCL Friends’ groups, and are moderated by the League of Women Voters.

Cedric de Leon, representative of the Friends of Rochambeau to the PCL board, said, “Our neighborhood libraries are places where people learn, build skills, and come together as a community. The mayoral forum is a great example.  Rochambeau library is providing the time and space for us to deliberate and choose the next mayor of our city.”

Providence Community Library (PCL), a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization,  was established in July 2009 by a dedicated group of volunteers after the Providence Public Library determined that it lacked the resources to manage the neighborhood branches of  Fox Point, Knight Memorial, Mount Pleasant, Olneyville, Rochambeau, Smith Hill, South Providence, Wanskuck and Washington Park.  Supported by the City of Providence, PCL is the largest library system in the state of Rhode Island and, in effect, the city’s second largest free educational institution after the Providence Public School District.
