Career Step Releases New “Day in the Life” Video Profiling Medical Coding Careers

PROVO, Utah - May 14, 2014 - PRLog -- Career Step, an online provider of career-focused education and corporate training, has released a new career profile video that shadows a medical coding and billing professional to give students a peek into what it is like day to day in this field. The new video is just over two minutes in length and follows a Career Step medical coding and billing graduate.

“Medical coding offers a lot of job opportunities, but many of the people we talk to are unfamiliar with what coders actually do,” said Ben Hartman, Career Step Director of Admissions. “We are very excited about our new video because it pulls back the curtain a bit and removes some of that mystery. It gives people the chance to do a little job shadowing even if they do not know anyone working as a medical coder.”

The two minute video follows Adam Erway, a Career Step student who graduated in medical coding and billing several years ago, through his average day. Adam now works for a small clinic, handling all of their billing and coding. In the video, he describes how he made the decision to transition to medical coding—from owning his own construction business—and how he feels about that transition after a few years of experience. Viewers can also see what Adam’s day-to-day activities and responsibilities are. Adam graduated from the Career Step program in 2011 and holds the Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).

“Taking the first step toward a new career can be intimidating,” said Ryan Ewer, Career Step Vice President of Enrollments and Marketing. “Our goal in putting together this video was to hopefully make that decision a little easier by providing those considering a medical coding career a real life, average day look at what their career could look like in this field.”

Career Step offers an entirely online Professional Medical Coding and Billing program that can be completed in a year or less. The program teaches students everything they know to sit for the AAPC’s CPC credential as well as the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) credential offered by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and start working after graduation.
