SEM Link to participate in BioBlitz 2014 a celebration of Biodiversity in Golden Gate National Parks

OAKLAND, Calif. - March 13, 2014 - PRLog -- Science, Engineering and Mathematics Link Inc. (SEM Link), through its Math and Science Career Academy, will participate in the Biodiversity Festival at BioBlitz 2014 on March 28-29 at East Beach in the Presidio.  SEM Link will demonstrate an interactive a hands-on activity of forest habitat that teaches individuals that the natural materials we use to make objects are finite. The activity uses a game to encourage the preservation of the environment by showing people the consequences of unchecked material extraction.

“It is important that youth and the community learn about environmental preservation,” stated Edward Samiengo SEM Link BioBlitz Coordinator and Science, Design and Gardening Curriculum Developer and Instructor. “Our activity, which is influenced by science, architecture and art, will educate the public about negative human impacts upon the earth. It raises the question, “What happens when we run out of stuff to build with?”

­­In addition, SEM Link’s Founder and Executive Director Ms. Tokiwa T. Smith will be conducting a workshop on Saturday, March 29 from 10:30-11:00 a.m. The workshop, entitled “Parks are for more than BBQ’s and Sports” will teach educators and parents how to utilize parks for STEM educational activities for their children.
