Colorado-based Adam Blair's feature-length student work Hipster! The Musical took home the BEST ORIGINAL SCORE award in front of a crowd of 500. The awards show included live musical performances from Soleil J and Billboard artist Sessino and featured outrageous costume designs by Natasha Berezhnaya. Hipster! (http://hipsterthemusical.com) tells the story of Dave and Lily, who have known each other for as long as they can remember. Lily is happy being best friends, but Dave longs for something more. When Dave gets frustrated and pushes Lily away, she finds solace in a whole new world of fixed gear bikes, cardigans, and cheap beer. With a feather in her hair and an ironic t-shirt, Lily changes her name to Edith (in honor of both Edith Piaf and Edith Head) and tells Dave that she doesn’t want him in her life anymore. Dave is now at odds with Lily’s lust for vintage stuff. Dave is at odds with the maniacally sarcastic Salinger. But most of all, Dave is at odds with himself. With 11 original tunes, countless dance numbers, and a story filled with heart, Hipster! The Musical is more than just a study of this generation’s counterculture. It will bring tears, laughs, and the urge to sing along. Adam Blair is the writer, director, and producer for his first feature film, Hipster! The Musical. He loves musicals, adores making movies, and can’t help but to comment on society – put all of these things in an oven, let it sit for 3 and a half years, and you get the film before you today. Adam’s inspirations include Oscar Wilde, Fred Astaire, Billy Wilder, and Orson Welles. In addition to his forte for film, Adam is a philosopher, a jazz pianist, and someone who loves a good cup of coffee.
