"Hipster! The Musical" wins Best Original Score award at Winter Film Awards Indie Film Fest

Adam Blair's feature-length musical film takes home the award for "Best Original Score" at 2014 Winter Film Awards Independent Film Festival in New York City

GOLDEN, Colo. - March 12, 2014 - PRLog -- The Third Annual Winter Film Awards Independent Film Festival kicked off Wednesday, February 26 2014 in New York City with three full days of screenings and after-parties and came to a dazzling finish on Saturday March 1 with a Gala Awards Ceremony at the beautiful club 230 FIFTH in which 15 outstanding winners were announced.  This year's event offered something for everyone, highlighting the dynamic range of talent and storytelling capabilities the independent filmmaking community has to offer. Among the 61 films selected for screening was a diverse mixture of documentaries, shorts, features, animation, music videos and horror films, including 9 student films, 17 female directors and representation from over 20 countries.

Colorado-based Adam Blair's feature-length student work Hipster! The Musical took home the BEST ORIGINAL SCORE award in front of a crowd of 500.  The awards show included live musical performances from Soleil J and Billboard artist Sessino and featured outrageous costume designs by Natasha Berezhnaya.

Hipster! (http://hipsterthemusical.com) tells the story of Dave and Lily, who have known each other for as long as they can remember. Lily is happy being best friends, but Dave longs for something more. When Dave gets frustrated and pushes Lily away, she finds solace in a whole new world of fixed gear bikes, cardigans, and cheap beer. With a feather in her hair and an ironic t-shirt, Lily changes her name to Edith (in honor of both Edith Piaf and Edith Head) and tells Dave that she doesn’t want him in her life anymore. Dave is now at odds with Lily’s lust for vintage stuff. Dave is at odds with the maniacally sarcastic Salinger. But most of all, Dave is at odds with himself. With 11 original tunes, countless dance numbers, and a story filled with heart, Hipster! The Musical is more than just a study of this generation’s counterculture. It will bring tears, laughs, and the urge to sing along.

Adam Blair is the writer, director, and producer for his first feature film, Hipster! The Musical. He loves musicals, adores making movies, and can’t help but to comment on society – put all of these things in an oven, let it sit for 3 and a half years, and you get the film before you today. Adam’s inspirations include Oscar Wilde, Fred Astaire, Billy Wilder, and Orson Welles. In addition to his forte for film, Adam is a philosopher, a jazz pianist, and someone who loves a good cup of coffee.

The 2014 Winter Film Awards Judges Panel was comprised of 15 industry individuals with diverse points of view, including 20-year industry veteran Frank Calo, production executive of "The Believer", award-winning filmmaker Sam Borowski, Broadway and Hollywood composer Stephen Trask, cinematographer Mik Cribben, music personality Matt Pinfield, producer/writer/director Larry Rosen and Miss Albania Benardina Radi.
