FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Oct. 18, 2013 - PRLog -- A brand new Nissan Leaf will be presented to the Office of Community Outreach and Resources (COAR) at the University of Mary Washington (UMW) during the Pohanka Nissan Hyundai Fredericksburg Grand Opening Event. Both COAR and the Nissan Leaf are built on forward thinking and sustainable ideals, which makes this a special presentation.

The presentation of the 2013 Leaf is actually not the first vehicle that Pohanka Nissan Hyundai Fredericksburg is giving the university. Tim Pohanka, General Manager of Pohanka Nissan Hyundai Fredericksburg, is a graduate of the University of Mary Washington and proud to offer the Leaf as the sixth vehicle the dealerships have given the university over the last 12 years.

Nissan couldn't be more excited to be involved in such a powerful community program like COAR. COAR uses hundred of students, faculty and staff to complete thousands of service hours each year all over Central Virginia.

Nissan Leaf Gives COAR A Broader Reach
Due to the high visibility COAR offers, it only makes sense for Pohanka Nissan Hyundai Fredericksburg to present them with a vehicle – and the Nissan Leaf fits the bill. The Nissan Leaf was constructed using a formula of environmental responsibility, sustainability, and innovative technologies to advance society in responsible ways. Essentially, the Nissan Leaf will allow students and other UMW volunteers to increase the number of community services. The Leaf will be in constant use and member of the university, community, and even the 35,000 alumni will have exposure to the Nissan Leaf.

COAR also works with the K-12 community, giving the Leaf an opportunity to serve as an educational resource. The technology which drives the Leaf will give these students insight in to the environmental and economic impact vehicles have today.

About the Office of Community Outreach and Resources

During the regular school year COAR runs regular volunteer work six days per week. Activities include tutoring and mentoring children in Hope House, low income housing community centers, the Thurman Brisben Center, elementary and middle schools; visiting the elderly; stocking shelves and pack Food for Life boxes a the Greater Fredericksburg Food Bank; participate in environmental projects with Friends of the Rappahannock and Tree Fredericksburg; and so much more!
