LOS ANGELES - Oct. 6, 2013 - PRLog -- The award-winning JazzAntiqua Dance & Music Ensemble commemorates 20 years of jazz ambassadorship with ROOTS, RHYTHM & SWING! – an evening of live jazz music and dance collaborations celebrating JazzAntiqua’s ongoing commitment to jazz dance education, preservation and creation. The concert performance and celebration will feature works from the company’s repertoire by founder/artistic director Pat Taylor along with the premiere of new classics created with special guests: vocalist Dwight Trible and Trio, trumpeter Brian Swartz & the Gnu Sextet, percussionist Munyungo Jackson and choreographer Carlos Jones.

Presented in association with Ebony Repertory Theatre, ROOTS, RHYTHM & SWING! premieres Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center - 4718 West Washington Boulevard in Los Angeles. Adding to the festivities is a special recognition of distinguished dance artist/mentors who not only positively impact Los Angeles and surrounding communities, but are also recognized and treasured around the world: Nzingha Camara, Hama, Shirley Martin, Karen McDonald, Donald McKayle, Jaime Rogers, Lady Walquer, Lula Washington and Chester Whitmore.

One of a select few companies committed to the presentation of concert jazz dance, JazzAntiqua Dance & Music Ensemble was founded in 1993 to celebrate jazz as a vital thread in the cultural fabric of African American history and heritage, and a defining element of the American experience. The company has performed at Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, Playboy Jazz Festival (Hollywood Bowl), Ford Amphitheatre, Luckman Fine Arts Complex, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Irvine Barclay Theatre, Lehman Performing Arts Center (NY), The Jazz Bakery, Watts Towers Jazz Festival, California African American Museum, Dance Mission Theatre (SF) and many other venues. JazzAntiqua is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, including grants from California Arts Council, Center for Cultural Innovation, Doolittle Foundation, Los Angeles County Arts Commission, Frances E. Williams Artists’ Grants and Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions.
