Local Band Celebrates One Year of Portland Citizenship with New EP Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Oct. 3, 2013 - PRLog -- Portland, Oregon- Those Willows, Jack Wells and Mel Tarter, packed up their car one year ago and left Michigan behind for the music scene and scenic views of Portland, Oregon.  Just one year later they've created buzz as Deli Magazine's August 2013 Artist of the Month not only for Portland, but in the national edition as well. With harmony driven indie-folk vibes, Those Willows have made a name for themselves, performing at local venues like Doug Fir, McMenamin's White Eagle and Ash Street Saloon.  Through the process they met and teamed up with another up-and-coming Portland musician and producer, Adam Brock, to document their transplant experience in the form of a 5 song EP; 'Existential Folks'.

Formed in 2007, Those Willows have had successes prior to their journey to Portland.  Their music can be heard on television shows in the United States and Europe, including: The UK's “Skins,” “Lying Games” (ABC Family), and reality shows on MTV, VH-1 and Bravo. However, they feel that their new music is a great departure from previous tunes like the ones heard on their full-length album, Rivertown, which was released in February of 2012.

"This new EP has a more experimental feel, riding the line of campy more successfully," said Mel, “The lyrics are more personal and the recordings are more honest."  They credit this positive change to the sights, sounds and people they've met and departed from in the past year, however they hold on to their love of harmony and genre jumping.  Taxi, the world's lead independent A&R Company reviewed Those Willows, saying, “The way in which your voices complement each other is really evident… It’s like you’re both riding on the same sunbeam," and Soundreef Music Licensing Company called them a "Hot tip for future stardom."

Those Willows will celebrate the release of 'Existential Folks' at Kelly’s Olympian on October 23rd.  EP producer, Adam Brock, who will also be playing a set with his band, Adam Brock 4, will accompany them.  Barra Brown, who has been taking the Portland music scene by storm, will be taking the stage as well, with his band The Wishermen.
