New low-cost course for Linux cloud server beginners

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand - July 30, 2013 - PRLog -- “The costs of running an Internet server have plummeted, opening up a wide range of possibilities,” say GREP101’s founder Steve Brorens, but “too many people are missing the opportunities because they don’t have the confidence with the Linux command-line to take the first step”.

He argues that the knowledge required is no-where near as much as people fear, as a plethora of “how-to” guides and YouTube videos cover much of the territory.

“What’s required, and what this new course provides, is a structured, assisted way to get comfortable with the Linux command line on a your own cloud server,” he explains. “Once you’ve logged into your own server for a month, installing and configuring software, re-booting and troubleshooting - then it all just clicks, and you’re in a position to reap the benefits”.

Steve says that a world of very low priced servers become available to anyone with these skills – the sort of servers that are now powering Google, Amazon and Facebook – and that a wide range of entrepreneurs could be taking more advantage of the opportunities if they got over the initial learning curve.

“The other thing I’m seeing is that experienced Windows or web developers are seeing that they can provide much more value if they transfer their existing skills to an area where the lack of licence fees allow much easier scaling,” he says, “and we’ve aimed the course squarely at those with no existing Linux background”.
