July 9, 2013 - PRLog -- According to the Information Security Forum (http://www.securityforum.org) (ISF), a global, independent information security body considered the world's leading authority on cyber security and information risk management, many of today’s most popular mobile phones and tablets haven’t been designed from the start as business tools and therefore do not offer the level of security required in the workplace today. Potential security risks include misuse of the device itself, outside exploitation of software vulnerabilities and the deployment of poorly tested, unreliable business apps.

Recently, Gartner predicted (http://www.gartner.com/newsroom/id/2466615) that 50 percent of employers will stop providing devices to their employees by 2017 and require them to bring their own devices for work purposes. If this forecast holds true, businesses cannot afford to stand still and allow mobile device adoption to run its course as it will create new attack vectors and probable vulnerabilities in corporate networks.  Organizations of all sizes need to remain one step ahead on all of the latest trends, mobile devices and related security risks.

During this webinar, Steve Durbin, Global Vice President of the ISF, will discuss the continuing Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and mobile device in the workplace trend and offer an information-centric approach to assessing and managing the associated risks. Durbin will also provide insight and guidance on the implementation of BYOD programs and in particular, discuss how to:

·         Take a risk-based approach to implementing BYOD projects

·         Identify the risks and threats posed by employee-owned devices connecting to the organization’s systems

·         Conduct analysis of the business impacts that BYOD incidents could present

·         Assess the organization’s vulnerabilities to those threats

·         Adopt and learn from BYOD leading practices

Organizations need to be aware that if implemented poorly, a personal device strategy in the workplace could face accidental disclosures due to loss of boundary between work and personal data and more business information being held in unprotected manner on consumer devices.  By putting in place the right working practices, usage policies and management tools, businesses can benefit from the advantages that these devices can bring to the workplace while minimizing exposure to potential security risks.
