Food Bank for Westchester's Hunger Heroes Breakfast Spotlights Local Hunger-Fighting Champions

Food Bank to Honor 2013 Hunger Heroes -- a Volunteer, Service Provider, Donor and Corporation -- for exceptional efforts fighting hunger this past year at 8th Annual Hunger Heroes Awards Breakfast Tuesday June 4, 2013.
 
ELMSFORD, N.Y. - May 13, 2013 - PRLog -- The Food Bank for Westchester, which has been fighting hunger for 25 years, is hosting the 8th Annual Hunger Hero Awards Breakfast on Tuesday, June 4, 8:30 am, at Abigail Kirsch at Tappan Hill, Tarrytown. The event honors those who have made exceptional efforts in fighting hunger in the Westchester community this past year.  

New this year is the presentation of the Michal Winter Memorial Award for Agency Excellence. Michal Winter was the Food Bank’s Agency Relations Coordinator from 2005-2011, when she left the position because of illness. She passed away in February 2013. Also presented at the event is the coveted Golden Scoop Trophy to the winner of the Golden Scoop Corporate Competition, a friendly contest between corporate Food Bank supporters. Participating teams are: All-Star Marketing Group, Bunge, Capital One Bank, Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, Clarfeld Wealth Strategists & Financial Confidantes, Curtis Instruments, Pernod Ricard USA, Regeneron, Webster Bank and Wells Fargo Advisors.

The 2013 Hunger Heroes Awards winners:

·        Leake & Watts Healthy Futures Program and Youth Gardens is winner of the Service Provider Award, which recognizes an agency or program for its commitment to alleviating hunger and improving lives.

·        Duke Searles, of the Montrose VA Hospital Supportive Housing Food Pantry, is winner of the Volunteer Award. This award recognizes a volunteer or group that has provided outstanding service alleviating hunger in the community.

·        Panera Bread, all 8 Westchester café-bakeries, is winner of the Donor Award, which recognizes the generosity of an individual or corporation in the fight against hunger in Westchester.

·        The Corporate Service Award is bestowed on a corporation that supports the Food Bank in multiple ways. This year’s award recipient is ShopRite, which generously supports the Food Bank’s Check-Out Hunger and Adopt-A-Pantry programs.

·        The Community Food Pantry of Tarrytown/Ossining is the first recipient of the Michal Winter Memorial Award for Agency Excellence.

The Golden Scoop Award goes to the corporate team that repacks the most pounds of food in the Golden Scoop Corporate Competition, an annual event held in the Food Bank warehouse in Elmsford. This year, the competition will be held Friday, May 17. The current holders of the Golden Scoop Trophy, who have won the trophy for three straight years, is Team Stop & Shop.
