Sept. 6, 2012 - PRLog -- The Food Bank for Westchester, which has been fighting hunger for nearly 25 years, will host “An Evening in Good Taste” To End Childhood Hunger on Thursday, October 18, 2012 from 6–9 pm. This special tasting event will be held at 1133 Westchester Avenue, White Plains. All proceeds from “An Evening in Good Taste” will help the Food Bank fight childhood hunger in Westchester.
The Food Bank estimates that approximately 200,000 Westchester residents, or about 1 in 5, are hungry or food insecure, meaning they are too often not sure where their next meal is coming from. Of that population, about one-third are children. While hunger is undesirable at any age, in childhood it can be particularly damaging, causing permanent negative effects on a child’s mental, emotional, physical and social development. Hungry children have more difficulties in school and with their peers and are hospitalized more often than non-hungry children.
The Food Bank for Westchester is committed to fighting childhood hunger. “For every dollar donated to the Food Bank, we can purchase $4 worth of nutritious food to feed a hungry child. Every donation helps,” said Rick Rakow, chair of the Food Bank Board of Directors. “This annual event is critical in helping support the fight against childhood hunger here in Westchester.”
Sponsorships and donations enable the Food Bank to hold this much-anticipated annual event. Supporters include RPW Group as Host Sponsor, Entergy as Title Sponsor, and The Journal News as Media Sponsor. Additional support comes from MBIA Foundation as Executive Chef.  AllStar Marketing Group, Capital One Bank, and Greenfield Stein & Senior are Sous Chefs. Chubb, Credit Suisse, Kraft Foods, Mack-Cali, Pernod Ricard USA, Reckson, a Division of SL Green, Stop & Shop Supermarkets and Webster Bank are Maitre’d’s. Additional sponsorships are available.
