Audiobook Pop! co-founder and book lover, Elizabeth Rodgers had the idea to create the app because similar apps were hard to navigate. “There are other apps that have similar content, but they include the entire Librivox catalog. Not all of the volunteer narrators on Librivox are reliable. No matter how great the book is, if you don’t like the narrator, it’s impossible to listen. Audiobook Pop! does the curating for you, both for narrators and specific themes.” All the apps from Audiobook Pop! are $0.99 cents and the in-app audiobook downloads are free.

Audiobook Pop! was founded in 2010 to provide a solution to the following three points of pain:

• buying audiobooks is expensive,

• owning, renting and borrowing CDs can be a hassle,

• being offered thousands of books by other apps is overwhelming.

Once the original app, Audiobooks For Your Kids, had been established, Rodgers and co-Founder Mazal Simantov received feedback from users that similar apps with different themes would be well received. To meet that demand, in Spring 2012, they released Audiobooks - Sci Fi and later Audiobooks - Austen, and Audiobooks - Tales, a collection of fairy tales and folk tales from around the world.

Rodgers says that launching apps for Android devices was just a matter of time: “With the revenue we earned in iTunes, we were able to invest in Android development. Now Android users can join the tens of thousands who have already downloaded Audiobook Pop! apps.”
