Waste Management and California City to Host Sharps Disposal and Household Items Collection Event

CALIFORNIA CITY, Calif. - March 22, 2013 - PRLog -- WHAT:          In an effort to facilitate the safe and environmentally friendly disposal of sharps, Waste Management and California City will host a drop off event on April 2 from 10am – 2pm. Residents are encouraged to conveniently and responsibly dispose of home-generated sharps at the Mable Davis Senior Center located at 10221 Heather Avenue. Gently used clothing, toys and household items will also be collected at the event. The items will be donated to local second hand stores helping to contribute to the re-use cycle.  

WHO:          The free event is open to California City residents only. No businesses or non-California City resident may take advantage of this program.  

WHEN:          Tuesday, April 2, 2013

10am-2pm

WHERE:          Mable Davis Senior Center

         10221 Heather Avenue

WHY:          Residents are encouraged to drop off their sharps to ensure they are properly disposed of and to help California City meet state mandates which prohibit the disposal of these materials into the waste stream. This effort will also help to keep sanitation service workers safe from potential injury.

HOW:          Residents can drop off any of the approved sharps including syringes, needles, lancets and household items to the drop off location.  Residents can also dispose of needles, lancets and other sharps easily from their own home through Waste Management’s MedWaste Tracker™ mail back program. Contact WM customer service for a free container and it will be delivered to your house. Simply fill the kit and mail back using the pre-paid postage label. Each resident is entitled to one free kit each year and a second kit is available with a $5 co-pay. Additional containers are available at full price of the container and there is a limit of one kit at a time.
