March 12, 2013 - PRLog -- The CWC Group, producers of Iraq Petroleum, has announced the launch of Iraq Power, taking place 17 June 2013 at the Intercontinental Park Lane, London.

Iraq Power will be the first Conference to address Iraq’s plans to develop a modern power infrastructure and create a sustainable supply of electricity. Gathering the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity, senior members of the Energy Committee, project leaders and investors, this unique Conference will discuss future opportunities in the Iraqi electricity sector, with focus on gas to power and the utilisation of natural gas as the fuel choice of the future.

Nawar Abdulhadi, Conference Producer for Iraq Power commented; “The launch of Iraq Power builds on the success of CWC’s Iraq Petroleum Conference.  This will be the first opportunity for potential investors and key industry players to hear about the governments plans for domestic power generation and supply in Iraq. Through this, investment opportunities and potential partnerships will come to light, making this an essential event for anyone looking to enter this market”.

The power industry is recognised by the Iraqi government as a key sector in supporting Iraq's GDP growth and the country’s social and economic development. The need for building a modern power supply to meet domestic demand is seen by the Government as a top priority in strategies set out by the Iraqi Parliament. Iraq has allocated $112 billion, equating to 45% of its annual budget, to the development of the country’s electricity sector and scheduled $250-$275 billion for spending on power infrastructure over the next 5 years, in a bid to meet domestic power demand.

Speaking to Arabia TV station in January 2013, Kareem Al-Jumaily, Iraqi Minister of Electricity commented; “Iraq will achieve electricity self-sufficiency by the end of this year and Iraqi power production will jump to 13000 megawatts before the coming summer”.
