AIT leverages Intel DCM to unlock server level DCIM data

AIT PowerDCM enables low cost power and temperature monitoring in the Data Centre
By: AIT Partnership

Feb. 26, 2013 - PRLog -- AIT Partnership Group Ltd, a leading provider of data centre and IT infrastructure services, announced at Data Centre World the release of its PowerDCM software to measure power and temperature at the server inlet level in Data Centres. Built on Intel’s DCM engine, PowerDCM installs in minutes to enable data centre managers to directly monitor servers, blades and infrastructure equipment. No additional metering or hardware is required with all data collected directly from the servers and infrastructure equipment.

Unlike other DCIM solutions which use temperature sensors mounted in the cabinet, Intel DCM measures the actual temperature where it matters most – at the server inlet itself. Accurate server inlet temperature readings allow data room temperatures to be raised without exceeding thresholds to save costs and increase capacity. Raising the set point by just one degree in a data centre with 100 racks will save £15,000* a year. With prices starting at just £2,500 PowerDCM offers a quick return on investment and an entry point for companies looking to benefit from DCIM software. The easy to use reporting and dashboard provide instant data on peak and average power and temperature trends at server, cabinet and room level.  Comparing real time data with budgeted estimates frees up hidden stranded capacity which means more servers can be installed in existing rack space saving on the cost of new rack deployments and capacity investment.  PowerDCM can deliver further savings by identifying “Zombie” and inefficient servers which each waste £400** a year in energy costs as well as wasting capacity.

“PowerDCM is a simple low cost DCIM solution that monitors power and temperature of individual servers. By knowing actual data, operations teams can make informed decisions to increase server densities per rack, choose the most efficient server types or save costs by removing inefficient/older servers altogether,” said Andrew Gibson, Director of DCIM Services. “Whether reducing daily energy costs, or making existing assets work harder and deferring CAPEX spend, PowerDCM provides a real alternative to expensive, all encompassing, DCIM solutions that are difficult to integrate and use”.

PowerDCM is available today. Please contact AIT on 0845 017 7017 for more information.
