By: City and County of Swansea Seasonal visitors are in for a treat when on 16 November as the iconic Waterfront Winterland throws open its gates for its festive run. The popular annual event on the grounds of the National Waterfront Museum runs until January 6 and regularly attracts more than 100,000 visitors to a colourful mix of ice-skating, a funfair, a big wheel and Santa's grotto. On Saturday 17 November it's Christmas Launch time in the city centre with an amazing mix of fun, dancing music, mince pies and Santa's reindeers throughout the day. And on Sunday 18 November the festive weekend will be completed with the annual Christmas Parade, Santa's arrival and the Christmas lights switch-on at 5pm. Cllr David Phillips, the Leader of Swansea Council, said: "The countdown to Christmas is now very much upon us. Waterfront Winterland has only been going seven years but it's very much a classic seasonal landmark for our city. "The lights of the big wheel are a brilliant complement to the fantastic look of the city centre and together they bring even more atmosphere to Swansea in the run-up to the festive season. "Entertainment has been arranged that caters for all ages and tastes and the market will offer even more variety to city centre visitors. "I'm sure the city centre this Christmas will be more magical than ever."
