Sept. 13, 2012 - PRLog -- Linux is a relative newcomer to the OS scene. It is made from Unix technology designed as part of a programmer’s dream of no cost software operating-system that a individual could download, update, change, and then re-distribute to the public.

The first Linux OS was designed in 1992 by adding a collection of programs from the GNU program which was another no cost software OS. Since then, Linux program has obtained the assistance of organizations like IBM, Sun Microsystems, Hewlett Packard, and Novell.

Linux is primarily known for its use in servers. Linux OS is also used on personal computers, super computers, mainframes, and portable devices such as mobile phones. It is packaged for different uses in distributions which contain the Linux kernel along with a wide range of other applications tailored to users specific requirements.

Many individuals think that Linux OS is only use by pc professionals. This believed came about because many mainstream pc users lack experience using the Operating System. While Linux OS is growing in popularity, adoption of it as a OS by users has not been as easy as its creators had hoped. That is because changing over from another OS like Microsoft Windows is very difficult. Plus, many applications are designed to only run in Windows. However, significant success continues to be created towards Linux system interface.

Users of Linux operating system say its one of the most exciting systems in the pc industry today. A secure system that cost low, and provides an outlet from vendor lock-in. Linux was initially designed as a no cost system and remains free. However, some organizations have established business models that involve selling, supporting, and contributing to Linux programs and no cost applications. A number of companies offer a specialized version of Linux OS which adds support packages to the system.

Another advantage of Linux is having popular applications. This includes word processing applications, spreadsheets, e-mail clients, media players, and web browsers. They have applications that are comparable to such items as MS Office and more. However, gamers may find some restrictions when it comes to applications that will run on Linux systems. While success is being created to make gaming applications compatible with the Linux systems, there are only a few games that can be played on a Linux Operating System.

Many professionals say that Linux will became the greatest operating system. With the near monopoly of Microsoft Windows Company, it’s great to know that pc users will have more choices in the near future when it comes to chosing a Operating System!
