| The Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild Names Mary Ann Scherr As Guest PresenterFormer Chair Of Product Design At The Prestigious Parson’s School Of Design To Present At Annual Show Nov. 25 In Raleigh
Scherr has been involved in design since 1945 and her career ranges from automobile to toy design and from fashion design to book illustration. As a goldsmith, Scherr pioneered the use of exotic metals as media for the use of personal adornment and small scale objects. She is internationally recognized for her unique works and for the development of electronic body-monitors, jewelry equipped with sensitive tracking devices that can perform medical chores such as monitoring heartbeat, blood pressure, or warning an asthmatic wearer of dangerous air pollutants. Scherr and her work have appeared at the White House, on CBS with Dan Rather, NBC’s “Today Show”, ABC’s “Good Morning America,” and the Johnny Carson show, among others. She has been featured in publications such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, People Magazine, Connoisseur, Fortune, Time, House and Garden, among others. Her art works are included in over 130 publications and she has exhibited her work in over 250 galleries, museums, hotels, businesses and medical facilities throughout the world including in Moscow, London, Tokyo, Korea, Canada, Guyana, Trinidad and Venezuela. Some of her most well-known clients include the late Duke of Windsor, Erma Bombeck, Joan and Walter Mondale, Liz Claiborne, Perry Ellis, Andy Warhol, and Chelsea Clinton. Now in her early 90s, Scherr is a metals professor at North Carolina State University’s Craft Center.
