Browser add-on Social Site, Italy-based 'Naroomi' is The Most Useful Startup of the Month (Aug 2012)
Naroomi is not just a mere Social Site that connects people. It claims to be different from the rest because of its built-in features. Its a Browser add-on that tracks the pages you surf, in a sense, collecting info on all that interests you, for you.
In private Beta for now, Naroomi is positioned as an App for web browers that "enhances the Social tendency of websites". This startup claims not only to connect people but their passions. It aims to be a Social Networking Site but not in the classical sense.
After you download it as an add-on on your browser, you get what is called as the "Naroomi dock". This starts keeping a track of your movements, online. So, in one sense, it is a data collection service. But you can switch on or off the add-on if you want.
Now, lets say, you are interested in fashion. You browse Sites - websites, blogs, Facebook Groups, forums - & join the conversation on fashion. Now, a single individual interested in fashion is never going to be completely aware of the fountainheads or repositories of information on fashion. Also, once he/she has started Net surfing for fashion, he/she will have collected, at the end of the day, scores of URLs or other destinations, but it may become impossible to keep track of all these links on fashion, for later recall. On both fronts, Naroomi claims to help:
a) You can collect friends in "tribes"
b) You can collect Pages in "collections"
c) You can comment on any Web Page & thus join a conversation on your passion
d) You can create private or public chat boxes where you can talk to others sharing your passion
e) You can share Pages you have liked with your tribe
Naroomi is a free add-on & does not require any special system requirements.
This Startup, based in Rome, is the brainchild of Web Development guy Andrea De Santis & Project Management & Corporate PR professional Riccardo Osti.
