Google+ Now offers Google.com/+YourAmazingName Vanity URL's - Or At Least They Will Soon

Aug. 13, 2012 - PRLog -- Vanity, thy name is ... Well this week, maybe Google.  Within days or weeks (and Google is not saying which), you will have a chance to win the race for your favorite vanity URL for a profile or page in the Google+ world.  What does it all mean?

Randy Kirk is a marketing consultant to small business owners and has been chasing the latest, greatest things on the Internet since, according to him:  "Al baby, called me in 1994 and told me about this new thing he invented," laughs Kirk. "We thought the world would run out of good .com urls in about six months back then.  Kind of like we thought we'd run out of oil.  Do you know I'm still finding outstanding URL's 17 years later?"

But, Kirk says, "Vanity URL's associated with a site like Facebook or Google is a bit harder.  Some of the best ones are hard to make variations for.  On the other hand, sometimes your vanity choice isn't that helpful anyway.  I happen to have stayed up till the offerings on Facebook started and grabbed Quixote.  That's a pretty cool one, but it hasn't made me a nickle."

Think about what vanity name might actually add a benefit to your company or brand. Kirk suggests: "If I'm a toy company I might want to try and grab +blocks or +sandbox.  Not sure, but maybe.  Geo specific terms like toyshopaustin might be important."

The race will be on shortly, so pick the ones you care about the most and try to stay on top of the announcement.  There is no clarity from the current announcement by Google as to when this will roll out, or if there will be a specific time when the starters gun will go off.
