By: Selah Haki In his artist statement, ShawNshawN says, “One of the elements of my work is numerology and its affect on the human mind, which some cultures assign mysticism like in China or others with only commercial value like the US.” The Wrighter’s tribute to “The Scream” was created in May, after the record breaking auction in New York, and features two artists a week. ShawNshawN is the 20th featured artist and shares images of his favorite work as well as his sketched version of “The Scream,” titled, “Twas the Night Before Christmas.” Of ShawNshawN’s version, he states, “The theme came about after dwelling on the tragedy of Stacy Peterson and her murder on Christmas Eve. The painting captures the violence and passion of the whole nation's reaction to her death. It definitely is a type of scream perhaps in the act of the murder itself.” Kobina Wright, writer and creator of The Wrighter, is a California native who earned her BA degree in Journalism from the California State University, Fullerton. She has created several art series, including, “Fractured,” Wright has written several books, including, “50” and “A Crime And A Simplification Of Something Sublime,” the latter includes several of her sketches.
