EDTS Experts Featured on Southeastern Conference Panels

May 15, 2012 - PRLog -- AUGUSTA, GA and GREENVILLE, SC – Two experts from EDTS, a full-service technology consulting firm specializing in networking, security and managed services support solutions for Southeastern businesses, were featured in separate regional conference panels on technology issues recently.

Gage Saunders, network engineer and security expert in the Professional Services Group of EDTS, delivered an April 12 presentation in Charleston, SC to the South Carolina County Finance and Technology Professionals Association on the security risk of bringing personal mobile devices into a business network.  Mr. Saunders addressed the implications for organizations that fail to protect their network through effective threat modeling, in-depth gap analysis and a robust “defense in depth” strategy.  Mr. Saunders is based out of EDTS’s Greenville, SC office.

Craig Tarkenton, Director of Engineering in the Professional Services Group of EDTS, spoke to dozens of business owners attending the Aiken (S.C.) Chamber Business Academy on May 9th on “Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery:  Staying in Business When Disaster Strikes.”  Noting how natural and manmade disasters can happen at any time and possibly result in breach of confidentiality or lost sales opportunities, Mr. Tarkenton discussed common recovery plan requirements and provided sample plans and checklists to help businesses prepare business continuity and disaster recovery plans.

Mr. Tarkenton also addressed attendees of the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) Internal Audit Spring Conference hosted by Augusta State University’s Hull College of Business, on May 11 on the topic of “Data Security:  Assessing & Controlling Risk in an Always-Connected Society.”  Mr. Tarkenton addressed how businesses are coping with the explosion of cloud computing and mobile devices, and the implications for once-secure data to be easily removed from the physical constraints of an office and  vulnerable while on mobile devices. His presentation focused on best practices to assess and mitigate risk in an "always on, always connected" world.  Mr. Tarkenton is based out of EDTS’s Augusta, GA headquarters.
