STATE Contracting, Inc. Completes US 64 Business Intersection Upgrade In Wendell

Jan. 31, 2012 - PRLog -- RALEIGH, N.C. – Deborah Todd, president of STATE Contracting, Inc., has announced that the privately held firm, specializing in site development and roadway improvement, has completed multiple safety upgrades at the intersection of the US 64 Business and NC 97 highways in Wendell, N.C. The redesign and realignment work, which included part of Old Battle Bridge Road southwest of NC 97 at the intersection, encompassed turnkey grading and signalization, minor widening, a change in the traffic pattern and stormwater runoff improvements on US 64 Business. The project began in early 2011 and ended five months later. The contract for STATE’s work, awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation as a Safety Purchase Order, was approximately $600,000.

North Carolina designated what is known as US 64 Business in 1960, when a bypass around Wendell was completed. US 64 Business runs approximately 19 miles west before it rejoins US 64 in Raleigh. NC 97 extended its western terminus to end on US 64 Business in Wendell in 1975. It runs northeast for 65 miles and intersects with Interstate 95 before ending in Hobgood, N.C.

“Highway 64 Business remains a pretty congested road along Wendell, with many drivers using the four-lane divided highway as a primary east-west route, and with others going northeast on Highway 97 at the intersection, as well as coming into town from that direction, the situation had become tricky for several motorists to navigate,” said Todd. “We implemented corrections that make the intersection easier for everyone to handle, including people using Old Battle Bridge Road. The final result efficiently accommodates the needs of Wendell residents using the roads for everyday business and people who use the highways as routes for their final destinations, plus offers pedestrians a safer way to cross them.”
