Davey and Goliath Celebrate Easter in Volume 11
Learn about forgiveness, responsibility, and the story of Easter with Davey and Goliath: Volume 11, now available from Bridgestone Multimedia Group.
After airing on national television from 1960 to 1975, the morally-themed cartoon has returned in a digitally restored series honoring Davey and Goliath’s 50th anniversary. Volume 11 contains five short episodes and the 1967 special “Happy Easter,” in which Davey is saddened by the death of his grandmother.
“Davey visits his adored grandmother on the Wednesday before Easter,” said the Rev. Eric C. Shafer, director of the Department for Communication for the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, which produced the original run and restored it for DVD. “They play baseball, bake a cake, and plan to attend the Easter pageant together at church on Sunday., but Grandma dies on Thursday. Davey is overwhelmed with sadness until he learns about Jesus’ resurrection, and he learns that his grandma will be raised just as Jesus was raised.”
Volume 11 also contains the previously lost episode “What’s His Name,” in which Davey learns the meaning of forgiveness when he is falsely accused of wrongdoing, and “Chicken,”
Claymation cartoonist Art Clokey brought Davey and Goliath to life, delighting millions of children around the world well into the show’s second decade. The Gumby creator produced the series with Ruth Clokey Goodell.
Davey and Goliath: Volume 11 is available for $11.96 at gobmg.com. Bridgestone Multimedia Group also offers Volumes 1-10 individually, a set of the first six volumes, and a Christmas special on DVD.
The final volume of Davey and Goliath is expected to be released this spring.
