Jan. 28, 2012 - PRLog -- The restaurant movie that is unlike others in the past celebrates its 5 year anniversary and is still going strong. "Did I Say Thousand Island?" the indie film is, on average, being downloaded about 25 times a day somewhere in the world, and that's from only one torrent site--there are about 9 others that are not tracked. So why do people still tell others about this no name movie? The answer may lie in the inspiration for the movie from the beginning. Patti DiVita, the creator of the film never wanted to make a movie, but as she mentioned in the National Public Radio interview with Jim Fleming in March of 2007, she felt called to do it.

There had not been a positive restaurant movie to show the lives of industry workers, and DiVita was fed up with the negative stereotypes and untrue portrayals. The research she did before shooting counteracted the popular image and others agreed.

After the premiere and articles in USA Today, The National Restaurant Association newsletter and other media, including radio and TV interviews, DiVita thought the movie had done what it was supposed to do. The messages were getting out into the world. But after a couple of years of getting emails from viewers who mentioned how much they liked the film and thought it should be remade and seen by more people, a new mission was formed.

Why not use this movie to help bring awareness to, and raise funds for, the Global Water Crisis? It made perfect sense. Restaurants can't operate without water, everyone goes out to eat, and after attending the International Water Forum at the UN in September, DiVita knew the idea is just the vehicle to help this massive issue. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4I0ANN-rNrg&context=C38b78...

The world is changing and there's room for innovative ideas. Unicef's Tap Water Project and the brand new movement aimed at food waste and world hunger are prime examples that are already tied to the restaurant industry. Visit http://www.gohalfsies.com/ to learn more.
