Mikki tames timid pets with gentle grooming range
Whether you are bringing home a new pet, looking after a new puppy or simply have a timid animal, grooming is an important bonding activity.
Below are three top tips from Mikki, the grooming, training and healthcare experts to help owners groom nervous pets with confidence. Using advice and experience of both Alison Rogers, grooming champion and Claire Arrowsmith, pet behaviourist, Mikki aims to help owners enjoy the experience every time.
Effective grooming top tips:
1/ Keep calm! Your pet will pick up on your mood, so it is important that you don’t feel anxious when grooming. Make sure you are in a relaxed environment and start by stroking your pet.
2/ Keep it fun! If your pet enjoys being brushed, then do this first and leave the elements they don’t enjoy until last (such as cutting their nails) so they have had a chance to relax into the grooming session.
3/ Reward! It’s important to reward good behaviour so your pet learns what is good and bad. When grooming, do a little bit at a time and reward your pet after each step with a treat.
Mikki offers a specially designed range of gentle grooming products that are ideal for puppies, timid and nervous dogs.
Grooming product guide:
Use pet wet wipes to cleanse delicate areas such as the ears, eyes, nose and mouth. The Mikki Ball Pin Slicker Brush is great for removing dead hair, followed by the Mikki Cotton Glove to gently stroke your pet while removing excess hair sitting on the coat’s surface.
Anh Nguyen, Mikki Brand Manager, comments: “We work very closely with specialists in the fields of pet behaviour and grooming to ensure we offer a range of products that meet the needs of all types, breeds and sizes of pet. We believe that ‘well groomed is well loved’ and making it easy for pet owners to groom their animals effectively while enjoying the experience is important to us. That means offering products that are clearly labeled in terms of their use and benefits.”
