Follow on Google News | PlayUp And Military Traveler Partner Around Upcoming Army-Navy GameFree Social Network App Offers Troops Way to Follow and Converse Over Annual Tradition
By: Joe Favorito Prior to the 2:30 PM ET kickoff on Dec. 10, registered users of the Military Traveler app will receive a notification announcing the “Military Traveler App” hangout room being open. As part of this agreement, PlayUp will be featured within the Military Traveler app, which serves as a reference guide for U.S. bases, encompassing useful phone numbers and base info, as well as user-shared content like ratings, reviews and uploaded photos. PlayUp and Military Traveler will both be included on the other’s respective press pages as well. “We have received consistent praise from troops abroad about how much they enjoy using PlayUp in their downtime,” said Dennis Lee, PlayUp’s U.S. Head of Product Development. “Especially with the holiday season upon us, we’re excited to provide a free platform for our armed forces to converse with friends and family miles away over the most popular and universal topic there is – sports. Partnering with Military Traveler offers a great opportunity to reach more troops than ever before, and we are looking forward to building off of the Army-Navy football game and continue presenting content to the military as we hit bowl season and the NFL playoffs.” PlayUp launched in October and enables sports fans to follow their choice of more than 20,000 live games while simultaneously discussing the action with fellow fans on their mobile devices. The free app includes real-time scoring and stats, along with the option to create private rooms to discuss the action with friends or join public rooms to interact with fans from around the world – play by play and pitch by pitch for every NFL, college football and basketball, NHL, NBA, MLB, and MLS game, as well as a variety of international leagues from around the globe. “During major sporting events, everyone gathers around the TV in the ready room or wardroom to watch the game via satellite,” said Military Traveler Founder Capt. Anthony Hatala. “Sports provide a moment of escape from the daily routine while deployed and PlayUp enhances this experience. We’re excited to partner with PlayUp this week with the Army-Navy game just days away. This game is carefully followed by our troops with a rich tradition dating back to 1890. PlayUp gives service members a way to discuss every touchdown with loved ones despite being thousands of miles apart in some cases.” Capt. Hatala, a U.S. Marine Corps Officer and Harrier pilot, founded Military Traveler in 2011 to help acclimate troops to new bases following deployment. Capt. Hatala has been stationed at seven different bases in his time with the Marine Corps and was eager to provide a better way to ease the transition for troops.
